Microchipping Is A Learned Skill
Please note that the art of inserting a microchip is a learned skill. Most States do not require that microchips be inserted by a veterinarian. In the State of Illinois, for example, anyone can insert a microchip assuming they have the skills required to do so. It is your responsibility to determine what the requirements are in your State in this regard.
Knowledge about and experience in inserting microchips is essential and, therefore, if you do not have experience inserting microchips, please consider the following options:
1. Seek training from a veterinarian, veterinary technician or other appropriate person.
2. Develop a professional relationship with a veterinarian, veterinary technician or other person skilled in
the insertion of microchips who may be willing to perform the microchipping services for you at your
facility or elsewhere.
3. The same advice, precautions and requirements apply to any microchipping clinic or other event
you may sponsor or co-sponsor. Such events must be conducted by those skilled in the art of inserting
microchips.
